Trinity Bible College Men’s Basketball Team Ties Single-Game 3-Point Record and Remain Undefeated in the NIAC!
Trinity Bible College Men's Basketball Team made a remarkable achievement last weekend, tying the single-game team record for most 3-pointers made in a game. The Lions traveled to Bemidji, Minnesota, for a doubleheader against Oak Hills Christian College, and their performance was nothing short of spectacular.
On Day 1 of the trip, the Lions showcased their shooting prowess, sinking 18 three-pointers in an 81-56 victory. However, it was Day 2 that saw them reach even greater heights. The team hit a total of 22 three-pointers, tying the school's all-time record. Seven different players contributed to this historic feat. Quincy Wilson led the way with an incredible 7 threes, followed by Marcellus Mencarini with 5. Mason Bates made 3, while Jacob King, Jonathan Ogugua, and Owen Pollard each added 2 three-pointers.
Coach Jordan Nowell reflected on the achievement, saying, "It was a fun achievement tying the all-time three-point record for made three-point field goals in a game. This team is a very talented group of shooters that is first in the NCCAA for three-point field goals made and third in the nation at 36.1% as a team on the year. They work hard to make sure that they are great shooters, and it was awesome to see that pay off!"
The Lions' shooting ability is a testament to their hard work and preparation. As the team continues to lead the charge for three-point shooting in the NCCAA, their ability to knock down shots from beyond the arc is proving to be a key weapon in their success.
The team's momentum continued as they traveled to Sisseton, South Dakota, to face off against Conference opponent Sisseton Wahpeton College. The game started with both teams exchanging baskets, and by the 10-minute mark in the first half, the Lions only held a slight 26-24 lead. But as the half progressed, the Lions began to pull away. Marcellus Mencarini's left-handed layup as time expired gave the Lions a commanding 51-39 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Sisseton Wahpeton mounted a comeback, hitting a few threes and capitalizing on fast-break layups. With about 11 minutes remaining, the score was tied at 65. The Lions remained calm and focused, making crucial plays down the stretch to reclaim the lead. Jacob King hit two consecutive three-pointers, pushing the Lions back in front. Then, with a minute left and the Lions up by six points, Jonathan Ogugua drilled a dagger three-pointer to extend the lead to nine.
The Lions held strong and finished with a 98-89 victory, improving their record to 12-0 in Conference play. Ogugua and Mencarini each scored 33 points, Jacob King added 22 points, and Colten Pagnac was big on the glass snagging 12 Rebounds, to go along with 8 points. Additionally Ogugua reached a major career milestone, surpassing 1,000 career points.
Next, the Lions will head to Lincoln, Nebraska, to take on Union Adventist University this Friday at 12:00p.m. CST. With their sharp shooting and poised play, the Lions are gearing up for another exciting challenge on the road.
