
Lions Men Can't Close in Season Finale
Lions fall short on closing weekend
The Lions came into this last weekend needing two wins to improve their standing in the NIAC and came up just short on both Friday and Saturday.
Friday night the Lions and Conquerors played a very tight contest as no team got up by more than 9 points. The Lions shot better, as they shot 40% from the filed and 32% from down town, but where the game was decided was on the glass and turnovers as AFLBS won both of those by big gaps. AFLBS had 18 more rebounds and forced 7 more turnovers. That led to AFLBS scoring 7 more points off of turnovers and 16 more 2nd chance points.
The Lions scored 73 points on Friday and 67 points came from three Lions. Logan Klitzke had a game high 30 points and 9 rebounds. Jamal Williams hit his season average of 24 with that amount he also added 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 blocks and 4 steals. Leroy Slaton added 13 points and 8 rebounds. Avery Parrish rounded out the scoring with 6 points. For AFLBS the man who made the difference was Ben Dryburgh as he had 15 points and 17 rebounds.
Saturday the Lions got a career performance from Tommy McIntosh, as he was a huge part of the Lions lights out performance from down town. The Lions once again out shot the Conquerors 46% to 43%, and again from 3 point land 56% to 38% and even out rebounded the Conquerors 42 to 39 but the breaking point was again was turnovers and AFLBS forced 6 more turnovers and turned that into a plus 9 margin on points off of turnovers.
The Lions dropped 92 and all the points came from the starters for the Lions. Tommy McIntosh had a career high 22 points including a 6-10 from the 3 point land he added 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Jamal Williams had another 29 points to lead the team. He also had 6 boards, 4 assist and 2 blocks. Logan Klitzke and Leroy Slaton both had double-doubles for the Lions as Logan had 20 points and 11 rebounds; Slaton had 16 points and 15 rebounds. For AFLBS Micah Moan scored 37 points and a game high 7 assists as he was the difference for the Conquerors.
The Lions will be looking for history to repeat itself as they will be looking to upset Sisseton Wahpeton College again in the first round. They will play the nightcap as they will play at 8:30 pm on Friday, the 15th.
