Lady Lions Get Back to Back Wins
Kennedy Nofziger's Double Double leads Lions in game 2.
The Lady Lions came through this past weekend with their most successful stretch of season. The Lions have now won 3 out of their last 4 contests while getting closer to tournament time.
The Lady Lions on Friday played Anoka-Ramsey Community College and won in dominating fashion. The Lions won in straight sets 25-12,25-12,25-18. The Lions did not give the Golden Rams a chance to take any sets from the Lions. The Lions used the serve as one of their best weapons as a team they 14 aces and were led by Kayla Barnett and Kennedy Nofziger with 4 a piece. Out of the 6 Lions who had serves on Friday every player recorded at least one ace. Camryn Shockley led the Lions with 9 kills on 22 attacks giving her a hitting percentage of .273. Kayla Barnett added 5 kills as well. Kennedy Nofziger led the Lions in assists with 12 and Madison Pennington with 9 assists. Abreena Knudson had 10 digs and was followed by both Camryn Shockley and Kayla Barnett with 7 a piece. Morgan Jorgenson led the front row with 2 blocks.
The Lions then on Saturday faced fellow NCCAA rival North Central. The Lady Lions won a 5 set thriller, led by Kennedy Nofziger as she recorded a double double for the first time this season with 15 assists and 13 digs. The back and forth tilt saw the Lady Lions win the odd sets and North Central winning the even sets 28-26,20-25,25-20,9-25,15-13. The Lady Lions were led by Kayla Barnett with 9 kills, Camryn Shockley added 8 kills and Kennedy Nofziger had 8 kills on 18 attacks for a blistering .389 hitting percentage. Kennedy led the Lions in assists with 15 and was followed closely by Madison Pennington with 14. Brittany Erickson had 4 aces to lead the Lions as they had 9 total aces. Camryn Shockley was digging everything in the back row as she had 16, Kennedy Nofziger added 13 and Abreena Knudson had 12.
The two wins get the Lions to 5-15; their next two games are the regular seasons last two tilts.
The Lions play Oak Hills on Friday the 26th at 7 pm, the on Saturday the 27th at 11 am. The Lions and Wolfpack have split their season series at one a piece.
