
What's Coming Up for the Lions!
A look into what is in store for the athletic programs this week.
After this weekend all of the Lions fall sports teams will have their seasons started!
The volleyball team after a season off, jumps right into it traveling down to Ankeny, Iowa. The Lady Lions will travel down to Faith Baptist Bible College to take part in the annual spike fest. The Lions will take part in the eight team round robin playing four games, three in their pool then one against a team from the opposite pool. The Lions will play their first two games on Friday, August 31st. They will play the host team Faith Baptist Bible College at 4p.m. and that game will be live streamed. They also play in the night cap at 8p.m. against a scholarship program, Cottey College out of Missouri. On September 1st, the Lions will play at 11a.m. against Manhattan Christian College, they will add a game at 1p.m. which is TBD.
Coach Petersen is excited to get the season started after the fall camp, "We have a great group of ladies who have shown commitment and discipline in these pre-season practices. I have seen great improvement in the past couple of weeks, and I know we are ready to compete well in the upcoming tournament. I am excited to kick off our competitve season this weekend and look forward to seeing more imrovements and positive outcomes!"
One of the holdovers from the volleyball team, Kayla Barnett, also is sharing in the excitment of the head coach as well, "I'm really looking forward to being apart of rebuilding the volleyball program. I truly believe in what Coach SaraLi is looking to implicate within the team, and I'm excited to play under her for my last season as a Lion."
The Men's and Women's Cross Country team will also kick-off their seasons this Friday, as they will be heading down to Aberdeen, SD to compete in the Roe Granger Cross Country meet hosted by the Northern State University Wolves. The mens team is set to improve off of their stellar season from last year as they return both of their national qualifiers, and the rest of the roster! The Ladies team will be smaller than last year but is returning Chloe Jacobs who set multiple top ten times last year.
Coach Thurber offered this up about the upcoming meet, "We are looking forward to getting out there and racing after the past couple of weeks of training together. Our team has been working hard getting into shape for the season and has high aspirations for this coming season."
The Trinity Football team is idle this week. The next contest is September 8th, against the Grinnell Pioneers.
