A look at how the Lions faired this weekend
After this past weekend all the Lions have had their first official competition; and there was some accolades to go with it!
The men's cross country team got their first official meet under their belt this past weekend. The men started their season at the Herb Blakely Invitational, and for Sam Jacob the season started on a high note as he was selected as the NCCAA Men's DII Cross Country Athlete of the week with a 34:09 time. Sam just needs to shave off 9 seconds to qualify for nationals. The Lions as a team ran a time of 3:16:31, which the team qualifying time is 3:00:00. After Sam Jacob the Lions finished in the order of Sam Maruszewski with a time of 38:19, then Marcus Staley at 39:00, followed by Josiah Liebe crossing at 41:31 and the last to cross for Trinity was Isaiah McIntosh at 44:52.
The Lady Lions cross country team showed well at the meet as well. All three ladies improved their time from the first meet! Chloe Jacob improved her already impressive time dropping it down to 22:05. Kersten Lucas dropped her time to 25:08, which is just 38 seconds away from qualifying for nationals for the freshman, Arianna Bigart crossed at a time of 26:56. The Lady Lions cross country team is looking to improve on their times and get a couple of more ladies to qualify for nationals!
The Lady Lions volleyball team played both Friday and Monday to round out a busy weekend for them. The Ladies traveled up to Bottineau, to face the Lumberjacks. The Lions fell 3-0 (25-17,25-21,25-14). For the first time this season the Lions had a positive hitting percentage in all three sets. The Lineup was shuffled a bit this week and led to Kayla Barnett leading the team in kills with 6, Camryn Shockley added 5 kills as well. Kennedy Nofziger led the team with 10 assists. The libero Abrenna Knudsen paced the back row with 12 digs. The Lions faced the Lake Region Royals on Monday night and after a tough first set the Lions played at a high level for the last two sets having late lead in both set two and three. The Royals won the match 3-0 (25-10,25-22,25-18). Camryn Shockley lead the team with 3 kills, Kennedy Nofziger lead the team with 4 assists. Kayla Barnett had 5 total blocks, and Abreena Knudsen had 8 digs to lead the back row. The Lions will travel to Macalester this weekend to play four games. The Lions will play two on the 14th and two 15th. The Lions will play Grinnell, Macalester, Beloit and Alverno.
The Lions football team traveled down to Grinnell this past weekend and fell 46-0. The Lions had to shuffle around their roster due to multiple injuries that put players into positions that they were not accustomed to. TJ Martinez took the helm at QB and completed 9 passes for 59 yards. David Steeves lead the rushing attack running for 55 yards on 6 carries. The Defense was lead by all four linebackers; all four starters finished over 10 tackles. Jimmy King was all over the field as he had 12 total tackles added a sack, force fumble and a blocked PAT. Dakota King added 11 tackles and added his second sack of the year. Both David Steeves and Zach Noffsinger finished with 10 tackles apiece. The Lions will head to Marion, Indiana to face Indiana Wesleyan University. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN 3 along with being live streamed on their website.
