Lions Look to Finish Regular Season Strong
The Lions take on AFLBS to end their regular season
Both the Men and Women's teams could make this a very important weekend heading into tournament play next weekend. The Lady Lions currently sit in 7th place in the conference but with a sweep could reach all the way up to 4th in the conference. The Men's team currently sit in 8th but with a sweep as well could see themselves move up to 7th in the conference which would allow for a better matchup in round one; with that the Lions men sit at 4th in the NCCAA region and with two wins could catapult them into the 3rd seed.
The Lady Lions are coming into this game on a losing streak but the offense in the last seven games is averaging 55 points a game, which is 10 points higher than their season average. A player to watch this weekend is Kennedy Nofizger as she is one of 10 ladies in the NCCAA with a positive assist to turnover ratio. All the starters for the Lions are averaging anywhere from 7.5 points to 11 points which makes the ladies extremely balanced. Three Lady Lions cover the boards with Chambre Droste, Camryn Shockley and La'Anna Golden who are all north of 7.5 boards per game. All five starters also average over 1.5 steals per game. With the team being extremely balanced and being tough on the perimeter the Lions are hoping to knock off a 5-13 AFLBS team.
The Men's team this semester has been playing good basketball as they have won 4 out of their last 7 against either conference or regional teams. A Player to watch is Jamal Williams as not only he leads the NCCAA in ppg he is also just 16 away from scoring his 1,000th point and being the 22nd member of the exclusive club. Logan Klitzke and Leroy Slaton have been vital in the recent surge made by the men's team as they are both over 10ppg and the two leading rebounders on the team as well both north of 7 rpgs. The Lions are looking to sweep the 4-13 AFLBS team and swap standings in the NIAC.
The Lions game is scheduled to start on February 8th at 6pm and 8pm.
