Lady Lions finish season with 2nd place at ACCA National Tournament
In the first year of the Coach Petersen era she laid a foundation that looks like it will breed future success. In the 28 matches they played this year the Lady Lions came out with 8 wins including a winning record against NCCAA D2 opponents.
The Lady Lions did not have to wait long to get their first win of the season as they won in their opening weekend tournament against Ozark Christian College. The Lions were 7-6 against NCCAA D2 opponents. The Lady Lions also beat a JUCO opponent for the first time in 5 seasons with a win against Anoka-Ramsey Community College.
The Lions were a relatively young team, as they did not have a team last season, so the seniors on the roster were Kayla Barnett and Madison Pennington, they both only competed in two total seasons through their tenure. Brittany Erickson was the only other Lion with game time in the past two seasons. The Lions had 7 first year players on the roster this season.
The Lady Lions were led on offense by freshman Camryn Shockley as she had 209 kills; Kayla Barnett was second on the team with 121 kills. Kennedy Nofziger was first on the team with a hitting percentage of .151 and was closely followed by Camryn Shockley at .146. The Lions were paced by Kennedy Nofziger with 296 assists which places her at 5th all time in Trinity history, Madison Pennignton had 224 assists for the Lions. The Lady Lions had 166 service aces as a team this past season with 5 Lions with over 20 a piece. Madison Pennington had a team leading 38, followed by Kennedy Nofziger with 31. Shannon Beauchene, Abreena Knudsen and Camryn Shockley all finished over 20 aces. On the defensive side of the game the Lady Lions as a team dug up over 1,200 attacks this past season with 3 Lions over 230 digs. Camryn Shockley led the Lions with 285 digs, followed by Abreena Knudsen then Kayla Barnett. Kayla Barnett led the Lady Lions in blocks with 35 total the Camryn Shockley with 28 totals blocks.
The Lady Lions look to build for the future as they can return up to eight of these student athletes next season!
Coach Petersen had this to say about the season: "Going into this season, we knew we had a lot of hard work ahead of us. I am so proud of how the ladies worked diligently day after day to improve in skill, team unity and character. They fought hard all season long, making some great games out of very tough competition and finishing on top in crucial games that brought us to the ACCA National Tournament. I can confidently say that through determination and discipline, this team earned a successful season for the TBC Volleyball program."
