Trinity Lions Beat Lewis-Clark Valley
The Trinity Bible College football team made the long trip to Cottonwood, ID to play the Lewis-Clark Valley Loggers once again on Saturday, October 19th. This would be the second time that the Lions would see this team, as they beat the Loggers 33-20 on Trinity's home field earlier in the season.
The Lions started the game strong, scoring on their first drive. After marching the ball down the field, MJ Ybarra threw a 15 yard pass to Preston Lyons to score the first touchdown of the game. Kicker, Nick Howser, followed up with the extra point which allowed the Lions to lead 7-0 in the first quarter. It wasn't until the second quarter that the Loggers were able to answer back with a touchdown by Seth West. However, the extra point kick was no good. The Lions were able to keep their lead, 7-6, going into the second half.
The second half was led by the defense, as both teams were held scoreless. It was a close call at the end of the fourth quarter with the Loggers within 20 yards of the end-zone. However, the Lions sealed the game when Michael Lira caught an interception with less than a minute on the clock. The Trinity Lions once again earned a win over Lewis-Clark Valley, 7-6.
The Lions' rushing offense was led by Christian Fischer, a sophomore. He gained a total of 65 rushing yards, averaging 2.7 yards per carry. It was TJ Martinez who led the receiving yards for the offense. Martinez averaged 9.3 yards per catch, totaling 56 receiving yards.
Senior Elijah Christensen once again dominated on the defense for the Lions. Christensen had a total of 13 tackles and 2 sacks during the game. He completed an impressive 6 tackles for loss which tied the Trinity Bible College school record for this statistic.
Coach Twigg had this to say about the win. "I thought the guys played well in tough circumstances with the weather they faced. We had upperclassmen carry our team to a much deserved win. I'm excited to go into our last game of the year with some momentum behind us and try to send out our three seniors as winners."
Looking Ahead
The Lions will have their last game of the season at the University of Colorado Springs on Saturday, October 26th at 12:00pm.
