Women's Basketball Season Update
The women's Lions basketball team has been fortunate to compete during the first semester of the 2020-2021 basketball season. Although there has been unforeseen changes, the Lions have pushed through to find success during the first half of their season.
The Lady Lions started their season with a home court opening game against North Central University. Although it was a close game, the Lions were unable to come away with the win, losing 63-55. The next two games were against two tough teams in which the Lions fell short of a victory.
The Lions then matched up against an NCCAA Regional team, Faith Baptist Bible College. They were able to finish on top, 59-51, earning a very important win for the season. It wasn't long until the Lions earned two back-to-back wins against Free Lutheran Bible College with scores of 71-26 and 53-18.
To finish out the first semester, the Lions headed to Ankeny, IA for a couple of NCCAA match ups. They saw Faith Baptist Bible College in the first game. The Lions fought hard but fell short in overtime, losing 85-75. Calvary University also came out with the win over TBC, with a score of 64-53.
It is sophomore Stacia West who leads the team in total points for the season with 190. She is followed by Brenna Anderson, a freshman guard, with 105. Stacia West also leads the team in total rebounds with 86, with Rachel Church close behind with 70. Church and Anderson are ahead in assists with 30 and 27, respectively. Grace West and Church both lead in defensive steals, each having 23 steals for the season.
In the words of Coach Rachael Nowell, "This semester presented its challenges, but I could not be more proud of this team! They navigated the unknown and unpredictability of the semester with class. We enjoyed some big wins, lost some close games, and gained valuable experience! This group has a great balance of talent and is growing together as a team with every competition. I thoroughly enjoy this team and look forward to what next semester holds for them."
