Coach Jordan Nowell Named NCCAA National Coach of the Year
Coach Jordan Nowell has added another incredible accomplishment to his coaching career! Coach Nowell has been named the National Coach of the Year for the NCCAA DII Men's Basketball Division for the 2020-2021 season.
This is Coach Nowell's 14th season as head coach of the Trinity Bible College Lions. This season, the Lions finished with a mark of 21-10 and were ranked in the NCCAA Top 10 in each poll. They earned their highest ranking in TBC history when they were ranked 4th in the Top 10 released just before the Regional Tournament.
Coach Nowell also earned his 200th career victory and now stands at 210 victories. That is the most wins in men's basketball history at Trinity Bible College.
This season saw the Lions defeat a top 10 team twice, lose to an NAIA school by two in overtime, and earn the top seed at the Regional Tournament. At one point in the second semester, the Lions had won 11 straight games. The team finished 2nd in scoring offense in the NCCAA. The team led the nation in 3-point field goals made (360), which was 75 threes better than second place! The Lions also finished 2nd in the nation in assists per game!
In his coaching career, Coach Nowell has led his team to four NIAC Conference Tournament Championships, a North Central Regional Championship, and an NCCAA National Tournament appearance. Coach Nowell has also been named the Coach of the Year four times for the NIAC Conference and four times for the NCCAA North Region.
Coach Nowell had this to say about the honor, "It's quite a humbling award! The basketball team and I put in a lot of long hours to try to make this season the best it could be. Sometimes you are just blessed with a talented group of players that will allow you to put them in the right spots to be successful. There is so much more that goes into coaching than the X's and O's…I hope that each of my players are better spiritually, emotionally, and academically than when they walked onto campus. This award means a lot to me, but the friendships, laughs, and conversations I have had with my players and former players will always mean more to me. I am truly blessed to coach these young men and to coach at Trinity Bible College and Graduate School!"
