Lions Basketball Players Receive National Honors
ELLENDALE, ND – The Trinity Bible College Lady Lions finished 7th place a week ago on their trip to the NCCAA National Women's Basketball Tournament. It was the 3rd time the Lady Lions have made it to the NCCAA National Tournament since 2011. Junior Jaylen Newman scored 48 points in the Lady Lions final game of the Tournament and set a new Lady Lions record for most points scored in a single game. (Previous record 39) She also finished the season with 779 points scored, which also set a new Lady Lions record for most points scored in a single season. (Previous record 630)
The Lady Lions had five players receive to national awards over their week. Junior Jaylen Newman from Velva, ND was named NCCAA 1st Team All American, one of five they name for the entire NCCAA. At the end of the National Tournament they named five players to the All Tournament Team and one Tournament MVP, Jaylen was named to the All Tournament Team as she averaged 35 points per game in their three games in the Tournament. The Lady Lions had five players named NCCAA Scholar All Americans, seniors Jordan Rohrbach, Janae Droste and SaraLi Petersen and juniors Rebecca Olsson and Jaylen Newman. Scholar All Americans must be a JR or SR with an accumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher.
For the Lions Men's Basketball team their season ended with a tough loss in the 1st round of their regional tournament. However, they did have one player receive a national award. Junior Aaron Stemen from LaMoure, ND was named 1st Team All American, one of five they name for the entire NCCAA.
