Lions Basketball Players Receive Conference Honors
ELLENDALE, ND – The Trinity Bible College Lady Lions Basketball team just won its 6th NIAC Conference Championship in 7 years under Head Coach Rachael Nowell this past weekend. They did it with a 65 to 57 win over Turtle Mountain Community College in the NIAC Conference Tournament Championship game in Belcourt, ND. The Lady Lions captured its 6th NIAC Conference Championship since 2009. Head Coach Rachael Nowell was named the NIAC Women's Coach of the year, while Junior Jaylen Newman was named NIAC Conference Player of the Year. Senior Janae Droste and Junior Rebecca Olsson were also both named to the NIAC All Conference Team.
The Lions Men's Basketball team looked to make it 3 straight NIAC Conference Championships, however they fell in the NIAC Conference Tournament Championship game 80 to 70 to Turtle Mountain Community College. Junior's Aaron Stemen, Friscoe Erdahl and Jaden Shockley were all named to the NIAC All Conference Team.
In addition to the conference honors Lions Basketball's Jaylen Newman broke the Lady Lions record for most points scored in a single season with 633. The previous record was 630. Also, Junior Friscoe Erdahl scored his 1000th career point for the Lion's Men's Basketball team. Friscoe is the 20th player to score 1000th career points for Lions Basketball.
