Trinity Bible College Women's Basketball Season Recap: Resilience and Growth Amidst Adversity
The 2024-2025 season for the Trinity Bible College Lady Lions was a journey defined by resilience, growth, and determination. Despite facing numerous challenges, including a devastating injury early on, the Lady Lions showcased an incredible amount of heart and perseverance, finishing the season with a 7-21 overall record and a 5-8 mark in conference play.
The season started on a positive note, but it quickly took a heartbreaking turn. In just the second game of the season, freshman guard Jullie Hull suffered an ACL tear that would end her season. In her lone game of the season, Hull delivered an unforgettable performance, posting an impressive 28 points, 13 rebounds, and 8 steals, proving the immense potential she had for the team. The injury was a blow, but it didn't deter the team's spirit.
The Lady Lions were a young squad, with only one senior, Morgan Carlson, leading the way. The team's inexperience showed at times, but they fought hard, battling through close games and constantly improving. Their growth as individuals and as a team was evident as the season progressed. Coach Rachael Nowell praised the resilience of the team, saying, "The end is always bittersweet. No matter how the season goes, it's the last time that specific team dynamic will be there. Seniors graduate and move on; freshmen and transfers will join the roster next year to create and build a new dynamic. So as I reflect on a chapter that is closing, I see a group of athletes that grew stronger and more talented this year. I see a core group that didn't let the grind of a tough season define them, but instead, they were refined."
Despite the struggles, the Lady Lions saw multiple individual achievements. Madeline Berkey's stellar play earned her All-Conference and First Team All-Region honors. Marlysaa Ledgerwood also received All-Conference and Second Team All-Region accolades, showcasing her growth and impact throughout the season. Angie Soto earned an All-Conference Honorable Mention for her strong performances, and Morgan Carlson, the team's sole senior, received All-Region Honorable Mention, a fitting tribute to her leadership.
The Lady Lions' season came to a close in a hard-fought battle against the #9 nationally ranked North Central University Rams in the final game of the season. The game was a back-and-forth affair, with Trinity holding their own against the eventual North Region Champions. Despite the Lady Lions' best efforts, the Rams edged out a 68-56 victory. It was a loss, but one that spoke volumes about the heart and grit of the team.
Coach Nowell's reflections on the season spoke to the growth and potential of the Lady Lions moving forward. "It was a privilege to journey with them through growth and I look forward to where that takes us. With extreme gratitude and respect, we say goodbye to our senior, Morgan Carlson! Thank you for all of your leadership, loyalty, and four years of hard work as a Trinity Lion! Thank you to all of our parents and fans! Our future is bright! See you next season!!"
While the Lady Lions faced their fair share of adversity, their growth and resilience throughout the season will undoubtedly set the stage for future success. With a young core and a strong foundation built on hard work and determination, the future of Trinity Bible College women's basketball is indeed bright.
