Newman & Stemen Named NCCAA 1st Team All-Americans
Senior's Jaylen Newman and Aaron Stemen named NCCAA 1st Team All-American for the 2nd straight year.
Senior's Jaylen Newman and Aaron Stemen both capped off their Lions Basketball careers the past week and both received national honors from the NCCAA.
Senior Jaylen Newman was named a NCCAA 1st Team All-American for the 2nd straight year. Newman averaged 26 points per game, which was 1st in the NCCAA, 12 rebounds per game which was 5th in the NCCAA, 2.7 blocks per game which was 1st in the NCCAA. She was also 8th in the NCCAA for Free Throw percentage with 77.3%. Newman finished her senior season with 815 points, which broke the Lions WBB record for most points scored in a season, she broke or tied 17 Lions WBB game, season or career records this past season. Newman now sits with the most career points scored with 2423, career rebounds with 1077. She is the only Lions Basketball player to record over 1000 career points and 1000 career rebounds. She was also named NCCAA Scholar All-American for the 2nd year in a row as well. Newman was also named NCCAA Student-Athlete of the Week 7 times thie year!
Senior Aaron Stemen was named a NCCAA 1st Team All-American for the 2nd straight year. Stemen averaged 19 points per game which 14th in the NCCAA and 8.5 rebound which was 8th in the NCCAA. He finished the year with 571 point scored, which placed him 6th on the Lions MBB career scoring list with 1643 career points. He also finished 4th on the Lions MBB career rebounds list with 768 career rebounds. Stemen was also named a NCCAA Scholar All-American. He was also named NCCAA Student-Athlete of the Week 2 times this season.
Senior Rebecca Olsson also received national honor being named a NCCAA Scholar All-American (3.4 - 4.0 GPA as a Jr or Sr in their sport).
Junior Korey Harris also received national honor being named a NCCAA Scholar All-American (3.4 -4.0 GPA as a Jr or Sr in their sport).
