Lions Basketball Weekend Recap
The Lions men's and women's basketball teams opened with their first seasonal games this weekend on their home court against Canadian Mennonite University. Coming into the weekend, CMU had already seven games under their belts. The Lions had only played in their alumni games but were ready to start strong on their home court.
The women's team was unable to come out with a win over the weekend. However, they are looking to build in the following week when they are able to be back with a full, healthy roster. They currently have a senior guard, Kennedy Nofziger, out with an ankle injury.
The Lady Lions had two athletes who were able to get a double-double for both games on Friday and Saturday. Stacia West, a freshman, led the team in points for both games with 20 points Friday night and 18 points on Saturday. She also earned a total of 22 and 12 rebounds, respectively. Chambre Droste was next in line for points on the Lions team. She scored 11 points on Friday and 10 points on Saturday, while also getting 10 rebounds each game.
The men's team came away with two sound wins for their first home games. Khalil Bolden had a strong start for the Lions, totaling 32 points Friday night and 24 points on Saturday. He was also named Student-Athlete of the Week for the NCCAA DII men's basketball division. Bolden was followed in scoring on Friday by Austin Molan, a freshman, who had 21 points and Parker Stemen, a senior, who had 17 points. Molan led the team in points for Saturday's game with 26 points, followed by Bolden. Logan Klitske was able to earn a double-double in Saturday's game with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Looking Ahead
The men's and women's teams will be traveling to Dakota State University on Tuesday, November 12th for their next game. They will finish the week with a home game on Saturday, November 16th against Calvary University.
