Lions MBB Gets Upset Win at Mayville State (NAIA DII)
Men’s Basketball Results Trinity Bible College Lions @ Mayville State University Comets February 14th, 2017 (Mayville State University, Mayville, ND) SCORE Trinity Bible College defeated Mayville State University 78-86.
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was back and forth game the whole time as the Lions and Comets would have 11 ties and 9 lead changes throughout.
The Lions largest lead in the 1st half was just 4 points, however the Comets used a 15 to 4 run over 6 minutes to take an 11 point lead with a 1 minute left in the 1st half.
Friscoe Erdahl hit a big three at the buzzer to cut the Comets lead to 8 points heading into halftime.
The Comets led at halftime 43 to 35.
The 2nd half was as exciting and back and forth as the 1st half.
The Lions used a 14 to 4 run in the opening 5 minutes of the half to take a 49 to 47 lead.
Both teams found themselves tied at 69 to 69 with 3 minutes left.
The Lions went on a 4 – 0 run to take lead and the Comets hit a 3 with 10 seconds left to cut the Lions lead to 77 to 76.
Aaron Stemen was fouled on the inbounds and he connected with his 1st free throw but missed his 2nd giving the Comets a chance at a 3 for the win but it came up short.
The Lions went on to beat the Comets 78 to 76 for the Lions MBB 1st ever win against a NAIA opponent in program history.

- The Lions shot 46 percent from the field (30/65), 50 percent on 3's (9/18) and 60 percent on FT's (9/15).
- The Comets shot 45 percent from the field (27/59), 30 percent on 3's (6/20) and 69 percent on FT's (16/23).
-The Lions had 3 offensive rebounds to the Comets 9.
-The Lions had 11 Turnovers to the Comets 19.
-Jamal Williams led all scorers with 19 points.
-Tash Williams scored 15 points for the Lions on 6 for 8 shooting and 3 for 3 on threes.
-Aaron Stemen added 13 points for the Lions.
-Friscoe Erdahl pitched in 12 points for the Lions.
-This was the 1st win for Lions Men's Basketball against a NAIA opponent in program history.
-The Lions finished their regular season with a 14 and 11 record, winning 13 of their 15 games this semester.
