Minneapolis, MN - The Eagle volleyball team traveled to Minneapolis this past weekend for regional matches. The quadrangular schedule provided the Eagles with an early season preview of their region status. Faith won three out of their four matches and came away with a 3-1 region record.
On Friday the Eagles took on Trinity Bible College and secured a 3-1 victory. The Eagles immediately followed the win with a contest against the North Central University Rams.
Faith started the match against NCU strong with defensive play holding the hard-hitting Rams offense in check. Unfortunately, the Rams secured a 25-20 set win. Set two saw the Eagles start out strong maintaining a one to two-point lead. The set became very intense late in the score with the Eagles capturing a 25-22 win.
Set three found the Eagles holding 16-12 and 22-21 leads and playing very well. However, the Rams were able to secure a late 26-24 win with late kills and serving aces. "The sequence of plays at the end of the match is something we need to learn from. We were playing excellent defense and offense during that set but we failed to remain focused for the win," stated coach Nihart.
Set four found the Eagles sluggish resulting in a 25-15 Rams win and a 3-1 match win. The Rams outhit the Eagles 15.9% to 9.8% and in digs 93 to 71. The Eagles were led by captain Audrey Glandon with 13 kills and 15 digs. Setter Reagan McPeek added 15 assists and Libero Maddie Hodak added 14 digs.
The Eagles finished play on Saturday sweeping Crown College 3-0 and Oak Hills College 3-0.
The Eagles now stand with a 5-2 overall record and will travel this weekend to MCCC conference matches against Calvary University and Ozark Christian College this weekend.
