Emmaus Falls to Spurgeon College and Trinity Bible in Weekend Basketball Action
Pollard Fieldhouse — November 9, 2024 — The Emmaus men's basketball team faced tough competition this weekend, dropping two home games to Spurgeon College and Trinity Bible (N.D.).
November 7, 2024 - Spurgeon College 117, Emmaus 83
Emmaus (0-1) opened their season with a challenging 117-83 loss to Spurgeon College (2-1) in their home opener. Despite a strong individual performance from Taydem Arguello, who finished with 20 points and 7 assists, the team struggled to contain Spurgeon's high-powered offense. Emmaus was able to keep pace in the second half, scoring 47 points, which is normally very successful, but their slow start led to a tough finish.
November 9, 2024 - Trinity Bible (N.D.) 93, Emmaus 68
The Eagles suffered another setback on November 9, falling 93-68 to Trinity Bible (2-2) in a non-conference matchup. The game was competitive in the first half, with Emmaus only trailing 49-40 at the break, and they kept up for a bit before Trinity pulled away in the second half. Josh Stewart led the way for Emmaus with 18 points, including three 3-pointers, while Colyer Wingfield contributed 10 points and 7 rebounds. The Eagles shot just 30.8% from the field and struggled from long range (23.1%), Despite strong rebounding efforts, the shooting discrepancies were too much to overcome.
When asked for his thoughts, Head Coach Philip Parker said, "This was a good challenge to start the season. We played two very talented squads and they showed us where we needed to get to. I'm proud of our guys for how we competed both nights and we're pleased with many things we saw from our group."
Up Next: The Eagles travel to Chicago, IL to play long-time rival Moody Bible Institute on Tuesday, November 12, at 6:00 PM.
