Wolfpack End the Season with a Victory
Bemidji, MN – The field was prepped and ready for the Wolfpack to host their final regular season game of the year during a biting, windy early November afternoon. Meeting for the fourth time, the Oak Hills Men's soccer team was ready to face the Lions for the last time during the regular season schedule.
Going into this matchup, the Lions were leading the previous match ups up two games to one. The last time these two teams had met ended up with a victory for the Trinity Lions, but Coach Juni was hoping to even up the record and also notch the second win in program history.
Going into the game, the Wolfpack would be without their top scorer, Caleb Hower (Rapid City, SD), as he came out of their previous game against Maranatha with an injury. They were hoping to use this game to rest him prior to the National Christian College Athletic Association Region Tournament that is happening later in November.
The first half showed great defensive endurance and even better offensive possession by the Wolfpack, and about halfway through the first half, Kade Hanson (Thief River Falls, MN) was able to get a great ball through from Ben Chavez (Woodbury) and net the first goal of the game and give Oak Hills the lead.
The first half ended with the score being 1-0, and after talking it through with the team, Hower was going to go in for the second half. Coach Juni was hoping that by bringing Hower into the game, the team could work to get more goals and lower the goal differential for the season which would contribute to seeding for the Region Tournament.
This proved to be a great choice for the team. With the threat of Hower on the field, the Lions defense had to make sure he was being closely guarded. This allowed for other Wolfpack players to have more open looks.
Shortly after the start of the half, Chavez was able to get clear and score his first goal of the season. Later in the half, Hower was able to get open off a great through ball from Colin Schwarz (Blaine, MN) and score the third goal for the Wolfpack. Just a few minutes later, with the Lions defense still recovering, Hanson was able to get his second goal of the day, bringing the score to 4-0. Two minutes later, Hanson was able to assist on the fifth Wolfpack goal scored by Hower giving him his second of the half and the teams fifth.
During one of the few defensive lapses of the game for the Wolfpack, Midfielder Damian Myers (Gillette, WY) of the Lions, was able to capitalize and score a goal for Trinity bringing the score to 5-1.
Working hard to make up for the goal, the Wolfpack were able to keep most of the possession the rest of the game and Hower was able to net two more goals for a final score of 7-1.
Goal scorers for the Wolfpack were led by Caleb Hower who was able to net 4 goals in just 45 minutes of play. Kade Hanson followed with 2 goals of his own along with 2 assists. Ben Chavez was the final scorere for Oak Hills and finished the game with 1 goal and 1 assist in the 7-1 victory for the team.
Isaac Korell (Huron, SD) was in the goal for the Wolfpack and ended the game with 3 saves.
The Wolfpack will prepare for the post season and the Region Tournament which will be hosted by Crown College in St. Bonifacious, MN on November 11-13.
