Newman Eclipses 2000 Career Points

Ellendale, ND: Senior Jaylen Newman entered Tuesday night's NIAC conference game against Cankdeska Cikana Community College with 1,984 career points. Newman needed just 16 to reach the 2,000 point milestone stone that only one other Lion Women's Basketball player has reached, her head coach Rachael Nowell. (2,020 points). Newman scored 15 points in the 1st quarter. Then, on the 2nd play of the 2nd quarter she was fouled and went to the free throw line where she connected on her 1st free throw which put her at 2,000 career points.
Newman who is in her final year at Trinity Bible College transferred in as a junior after playing two years for the Williston State College Tetons. She scored 829 points for the Tetons. In her 1st year in a Lion's uniform, she broke the Lions single game scoring record with 48 points and the single season scoring record with 779 points. She was NIAC Conference Play of the Year, NCCAA North Central Region Player of the Year, NCCAA National All-Tournament Team Player and NCCAA 1st Team All-American.
Newman finished her historic night by helping the Lions get their 3rd straight win by defeating Cankdeska Cikana Community College. She had 35 points, 17 rebounds and 5 blocks. Newman currently ranks 1st in the NCCAA in points per game with 23.6, 3rd for Free Throw percentage with 80%, 2nd in rebound per game with 11.9 and 1st in blocks per game with 3.1. She has also been named NCCAA Student-Athlete of the Week five times this season.
