Homecoming Week
What is in store for the Lions this week.
After a busy weekend for the Lady Lions volleyball team and a long road trip for the football team they are looking to get back on track this week at home.
The Lady Lions volleyball team played four games this past weekend dropping all four of them to established volleyball programs in the Midwest. In the first game against Grinnell, the Lions were lead by Camryn Shockley as she had 6 kills, Kennedy Nofziger had 13 assists and also added 9 digs. The second game saw the Lions play the host team Macalester and again Camryn Shockley paced the Lions with 7 kills, Kayla Barnett also added 5. Kennedy Nofziger led the team with 14 assists. The third game came against Beloit College, the Lions were lead by Brittany Erickson with 4 kills and Kennedy Nofziger had 9 assists. In the last game the Lions faced of with Alverno, which saw the more of the same from Camryn Shockley and she had 6 kills and Kayla Barnett also had 5 kills. Kennedy Nofziger concluded her stellar weekend with 14 assists, which gave her total of 50 for the weekend. Shannon Beauchene added 2 aces in the last game as well. The Lions look to get back on track with an exhibition game on Thursday against Concordia in Moorhead, MN. They return home on Friday night to play against the Lumberjacks of Dakota College Bottineau for Homecoming! The Lions have faced DCB once already this year and dropped a highly competitive game where they had leads in the first two sets.
The Lions football team played against a highly talented football team in Indiana Wesleyan University this past Saturday, taking the loss. The Lions traveled nearly 30 hours round trip for this contest and came away with some positive heading into their homecoming matchup against Lewis-Clark Valley College. On offense the new quarterback, TJ Martinez, seems to be finding his groove as he led the Lions for their first score of the season on Saturday, that drive was 11 plays and went 73 yards for the score. Zach Marengo added another threat to the Lions offense with 8 catches for 71 yards and a touchdown. The defense also forced their first turnover of the season with a fumble recovery by Avery Parrish. The Lions again were lead by their All-American linebacker David Steeves who had 11 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 TFL. Dakota King continued his stellar freshmen season with 11 tackles to match Steeves. The Lions look to get their first win this weekend against Lewis-Clark Valley College, as the Loggers head here in a similar situation as the Lions; both teams come in around 30 players and are searching for a highly competitive game. The Lions are looking to continue the maturation process and continue to take steps forward. The kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Bob Tatum Field.
The Lions cross country team had this past weekend off, and are getting back at it this week. The Lions will be hosting a 5k fun run and 1 mile walk. This event is open to the public, and registration begins at 6:30 a.m. in front of the Student Life Center. The race starts at 7 a.m. as well.
